I thoroughly enjoy my dreams, at least the ones I can remember after I wake up. Some of my dreams tend to be lucid, where in I have a level of control on what I am doing or at least a sense of awareness of it being a dream and not the real world. How, do you ask? I don’t know. If I notice something out of place in a dream or something that jolts me I realize that I am dreaming. This either causes me to wake up, or the dream to become lucid. While I have had a fair share of such wonderful dreams (happy, interesting and scary nightmares) which I would like to write about, this particular one is about one I had today.

Now what has a black hole, got to do with my dream? A black hole is region in space which has inescapable gravity. So strong that even light cannot escape its pull, leading it to appear black. Since it is a black body that pulls everything in, it is called black hole. But what has that got to do with my dream? I dreamt of a black hole.

I dreamt that I was floating in space, and enjoying the vast cosmos. I could see planets, stars and entire galaxies as I lay floating in the infinite of space. It was like floating in a dark sea that was scattered with billions of lights of all sizes and clusters. It would look something like this:

Image of Outer Space, Wikipedia

I was floating in one particular direction towards a point. It was a black hole which was slowly but surely pulling me towards it. While I was not aware that it was a dream, I do remember feel fascinated by the idea of being pulled in a black hole. Slowly the pull started getting stronger and I was being pulled in faster. I felt that I was floating faster, but the stars seemed to be floating by slower. It was on this observation that I realized that I was not in the real world, and actually dreaming. On thinking about why the stars seemed to travel slower than my floating I realized that I was dreaming about the event horizon.

Now some of you may be wondering what an event horizon is (especially since I put an emphasis on it). An event horizon is a point of no return from the pull of a black hole. After crossing the event horizon the pull exerted on the body is so strong that it becomes impossible to escape it. In fact the pull is so strong that time itself slows down. To a person outside the event horizon, I might be still floating in the same speed, but to the object inside the event horizon time slows down due to the powerful pull of the black hole and it seems that everything beyond the point has stopped or become realllly slow.

As my fascination grew about getting to witness the event horizon, I began to feel afraid. Since I was beyond the point of no return, I felt that I may get stuck over there forever. STUCK IN TIME AND IN A BLACK HOLE, FOREVER. This sting of fear is what woke me up from my dream.

May be some time later I will write about more of the dreams I remember of. Have you had such dreams?

  1. First. 🙂
The picture with the blog unfolded, rather filled in so darned slowly that I wondered for a moment the blog too had gotten into the event horizon. It then, of course, occurred to me that my net connection is the one perpetually there 😛

Most of my dreams are the black hole variety in the sense that they get me scared. I really don’t get many details, but the dominant feeling of being afraid, lost, sad is what remains. Sigh. I’d rather not dream at all. I’ve found it quite strange though that even if I do have happy thoughts, and have long conversations with the kids before I sleep, it still comes back … the nightmares.

I guess Freud would have loved to interpret them, those dreams, if only they were lucid enough. 🙂
Slow day? Maybe the hangover of the black hole’s event horizon? 😀

    1. I looked up the Dream dictionary link share by Bhavia.. It says that black holes generally indicated the feeling that one has made a decision from which one cannot turn back or is feeling stuck.

For dreaming of being Lost, it has to say this:

To dream that you are lost suggests that you have lost your direction in life or that you have lost sight of your goals. You may be feeling worried and insecure about the path you are taking in life. If you try to call for help, then it means that you are trying to reach out for support. You are looking for someone to lean on. Alternatively, being lost means that you are still adjusting to a new situation in which the rules and conditions are ever changing.

    1. 😀 THanks for the link. This is what it has to say about dreaming of black holes:

To see the black hole in your dream indicates that there is no turning back on a decision that you have made. You may be feeling stuck in a situation. Alternatively, the hole symbolizes the subconscious and the unknown

      Very interesting

  2. Ahhh…if I had such a dream, I would have woken up the entire building. 😀

I generally don’t remember my dreams once I am awake and whenever I do, I just remember bits and pieces of it. Mostly I get dreams of being in an exam hall, or giving a presentation and making mistakes and sometimes its the kids scolding me for adding salt instead of sugar in their milk. 😀

      1. And by the way, I did try the mini mango tarts and the kids loved it immensely. A well relished surprise for them on Saturday eve. Thank you! 🙂

  3. That was fascinating, interesting, shows your vivid imagination and felt right out of a sci fiction story.

But the question is really? Have you been reading or seen or talked about anything remotely related to it? Because if not thats weird and I would start believing in the description of dreams. The interpretation you wrote in one of the responses totally goes in line about the event horizon concept.

Have you been contemplating over a decision or something?

  4. Hain…there is a hole in space and that too black? 😯 We need to send some painters/designers pronto to remodel it i say

The only dreams I have is always about certain handsome men and I am scared to even look up the reason behind it 😉

Btw that enlarged butt shot of my blog on your sidebar almost gave me an attack 🙄

    1. Maybe that jamuni color, of which you have the bag with blue ambi designs 😀

I totally agree about your dreams, although I can only think of two men. I am curious about the others now.

  5. Yikes!!
    Stuck in a Black hole?!!

I actually remembered you and your dream yesterday at the Planetarium!! 😀
We watched a show there and they showed the Black hole as well and I was like – “Well, Santulan would’ve enjoyed this one!!”

  6. I used to have a lot of nightmares. While attending graduate school, I started having ominous dreams, the kind where I might all of a sudden get up discovering my pillow covered with perspiration.

Amazingly my scenario was always a similar: I would be walking through the halls when all of a sudden wind would surround me. I’d then wake up breathless and horrified at 4:30 AM in the morning.

It’s ridiculous now, but back in those days I absolutely feared sleep. I would try the strangest sleep schedules to avoid dreaming, but I often forfeited the fight against my need for sleep.

Anyways once I decided to skimming Google for potential remedies when I stumbled upon the idea of lucid dreaming. I came upon a bunch of Internet “guidebooks” with various methods for lucid dreaming. Yet, after experimenting with them approaches for around four months I continued to have no dominance over my dreams. I then found a product blog on one course: http://www.reviewspanel.com/lucid-dreaming-fast-track/ – and as a result of my tiredness decided to purchase it. And it was an amazing decision – After under two months I noticed great authority over my dreams. I believe that my success is due to the compelling audio tracks in the Lucid Dreaming Fast Track guidebook.

    Anyways, hope the audio helps.
